The Jacob Francisco Memorial Century begins at 7:30AM from the East Tennessee State University parking lot behind Buck's Pizza. From ETSU, Five Mile riders will enjoy the ride through historic areas of Johnson City. The Centurians will ride past Jacob's home where the neighborhood will cheer the riders as Jacob once did before their tough climb up Buffalo Mountain. The beautiful Nolichuckey River will be a guide for many miles of the route. An approximate quarter century leaves the Nolichucky and travels back to ETSU for those that agree with a challenge but may not have time for a longer ride. The Centurians continue into Greene County almost reaching Davy Crockett Lake and returning to Johnson City through beautiful rolling pastures. For history and irony buffs, Jacob's life began in San Antonio, Texas and the route includes Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park.
All Rides are open road and the traffic laws must be obeyed. SAG wagons are provided, but riders are encouraged to maintain their own bicycles. Rest stops are provided for the Metric and Full Century Riders. All completed registration forms will be eligible to win draw prizes for which you do not have to be present to win.
Post ride bite and drink at Buck's Pizza!
Day of event registration begins at 6:30AM

Out of tragic loss there can be hope. Jacob Francisco, at six years of age, enjoyed his bicycle, playing soccer, kindergarten, his family and exceptional health until he was infected with a potent strain of E. coli. On June 29, 2004, Jacob passed away as a result of hemolytic uremic syndrome. His family and friends have worked with the ETSU James H. Quillen College of Medicine and the ETSU Foundation to establish the “Jacob Francisco Lectureship Fund.”
Jacob’s father, Bill Francisco, says “We want Jacob’s caring and glowing character to always be remembered. We can do that by helping medical professionals and parents recognize the symptoms for this serious illness. As advancements are made in the treatment and diagnosis for the illness, we feel that the Lectureship will bring those advances to the forefront for physicians, allied health personnel, and the community at large. Jacob will, in effect, continue to touch the
lives of others, especially children, in this way.”
Dr. Ron Franks, Dean, notes “We all
remember Bill and Juanita Francisco and family. Throughout the future, the Jacob Francisco Lectureship will raise awareness and bring the promise of hope that children can be treated effectively for this affliction.”
Those who wish to honor Jacob’s legacy are encouraged to make their tax-deductible gifts to the
